Getting To Know Our Infants' Rooms
At Shepherd's Way we believe that infants need a comfortable, safe place in which they can explore and grow. We understand that infants need opportunity to play actively and they also need the security that comes from being held and cuddled. That is why in our infant room you'll find lots of age appropriate toys and materials, a home-like environment with the softness and coziness that infants thrive in, and caregivers who are nurturing and loving to your child.
We believe that infants should be able to move freely in their own environment. In our classroom, you won't find devices such as bouncy seats and swings that restrict the natural movement of infants. Instead, you'll find that the caregivers and volunteers hold babies, encourage exploration, and keep babies actively involved in play.
Our infant room is a "shoeless" environment. In other words, adults do not wear their shoes inside of the room. After all, our babies are crawling on the floor all day and their immune systems are still immature. We believe that in order to keep babies healthy and safe, it is necessary to respect their space and keep it as germ free as possible.
Everyday at Shepherd's Way your infant will have the opportunity to play outside in a specially designed infant area. This outdoor environment is filled with the sensory stimulation and loving interactions your child needs to grow physically, cognitively and socio-emotionally.
Shepherd's Way has technology that allows you to view your child any time of the day by logging on to our web site. You will be able to view live, real-time footage of your child's day! Even grandparents from far away can feel in touch with their grandchildren any time they like.
One of our most important components is our intergenerational approach to care. Residents of The Presbyterian Homes at River Landing and children will have daily opportunities to interact, play, and develop meaningful friendships. Volunteers will often be available to read a story, sing a song, or simply share a smile or give a hug.
In our infant room, and in every room in our center, we have a parents are always welcome policy. We encourage you to come and visit your child any time of the day. In fact, we feel that it's important for you to come spend time in your child's environment. When your child senses that you feel good about where they spend their day, they feel more safe and secure.
